The Water Closet "S-Trap"
The Water Closet

S-Trap

A S-Trap pipe is usually located below the water closet. It is also known as the S-bend and was invented by Alexander Cummings.

This S-Trap is used to prevent sewer gases from entering the room where the water closet is located. It retains a small amount of water in the pipe after a flush which blocks any sewer gases.

Did you know?

The US sewer systems contain heavy doses of drugs because 90% of pharmaceuticals are passed by urination. One study has found fish containing estrogen, cholesterol-lowering drugs, pain relievers, antibiotics, caffeine, and anti-depressants.
