The Water Closet "Sir John Harrington"
The Water Closet

Sir John Harrington

You could say that Harrington was like the Thomas Edison of the 1500's. He was known to have tinkered, as well as create many things.

Harrington was the godson to Queen Elizabeth, who he created the original Water Closet for. Harrington designed only one in 1596 for himself and his godmother. He ended his career with this being his last invention.

Did you know?

Hermann Goering, a leading member of the Nazi Party, refused to use regular toilet paper. Instead he bought soft white handkerchiefs in bulk and used them.
